it is pretty good ride to thailand from Malaysia..
it can take a couple of days from KL to Bangkok..
A ride in Malaysian train is much nicer than that in Thailand.

Kuala Lumpur-Hatyai bound trains would cost about approx. RM50.00 above.Malaysian Train with about a day and a half ride from Kl to Hadyai.
Hatyai-Bangkok bound trains would cost approximately 800 Baht or above.Thai train with about 18 hours ride.

there's also another option whereas you take KL-Butterworth and then Butterwoth-Bangkok.That means no transit in Hadyai.

as for comfort, preferably u buy 1st class since it's a long ride and the air-conditioning is really cold at night so dont forget your sweater.

Thailand has an extensive railway network, reaching to the furthest extremities of the kingdom, and to the borders of Burma, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia. it can take more than an hour just to get through the various road intersections and out of Bangkok!
