When did France change the passport validity rule?

edited June 2014 in - France
I was turned down by Delta yesterday, tho they sold me a ticket to Paris.
Reason was my passport had only 5 weeks validity (for a one week trip, and I had a return ticket).
France,I was told, recently changed the rule to a minimum of 3 months.
In 50 years of traveling I have never heard of such a rule.

When did this happen?

  • Most countries require six months' validity, three months is a rather lax regulation. These rules have been in place for many years and are standard across the world.
