Could I get a passport for Ukraine or Germany?

edited July 2014 in - Eastern Europe
Hi.

My mother was born in Cologne, Germany just after the war  (1946). I believe they were Ukrainian or citizens of the Soviet Union at the time and were in Germany due to the tumultuous event at the time.

Anyone know, as a Canadian if I could be granted citizenship as a Ukrainian or a German?

Before I can give you a response can you please answer the following:-

1.What passport did your mother hold at the time of your birth?
2.Has your mother ever had a German or Ukrainian citizenship (held a passport in these nationalities)

Being born in a country does not always grant citizenship, so I need to know if your mother ever had either nationality.
