Do I need a Sri Lanka ETA visa for all my children, and if so, how do I apply.

Hi. I am travelling to Sri Lanka from South Africa with my children. Both are under 13 years old. Do I need to get them both visas for a trip to Sri Lanka or can they travel under my visa? Or is there a special way to apply for all visas at the same time?

  • Hi Greg.

Yes, unless your children hold Sri Lankan passports, they will require ETAs to visit Sri Lanka. All travellers to Sri Lanka, regardless of age, require an ETA.

    More info at: http://www.eta.gov.lk/

Also note: South Africa has recently increased the security measures when travelling with children.

When leaving for South Africa with children for travel, parents must produce an unabridged birth certificate of the child reflecting the particulars of the parents of the child.

  • yes.You need ETA visa.
  • you can get tourist visa on arrival to Sri Lanka
  • Your best bet is to get it on Arrival as Aron mentioned in above comment

Sri Lanka has changed to the ETA system. This is to prevent long delays at the airport waiting for visas to be issued. So it is much better to obtain the visa before travelling.

To enter Sri Lanka you can app;ly for a short stay visa online at: Electronic Travel Authority (ETA). Tourist visas are normally issued for a maximum period of 30 days. You must have a copy of the ETA when you present your passport.
