Dual citizenship, expired SA passport, can I enter on Irish passport

edited January 2016 in - South Africa
Wonder if anyone can assist, I have read the immigration law and I have spoken to Home Affairs, and basically they are saying its my choice and decision to enter on my Irish Passport and I could get a fine or a warning, so I know you have to use your SA passport on entering and exiting SA but mine has expired and there will be no chance to get a new passport now as I travel soon. What is everyones experience with this, do they warn first, or are they very strict and fine you, if so what is the fine?
Thank you.
