Birth certificate needed for ID?

My husband and I are traveling from Iowa to St Thomas next week. We do not have up to date passports as another proof of identification. I have my birth certificate but he cannot find his. Is it necessary for us to travel there with a birth certificate? He was born in AZ so we can't go down to our courthouse and get a copy of his birth certificate. We have our ID's and SSN cards we can bring for proof of who we are. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Call your airline. Their check-in agent controls boarding, they will tell you what is (and isn't) acceptable identification.

  • When US citizens travel to the US Virgin Islands photo ID is normally required such as a driving license coupled with a raised seal birth cerificate.
As Terry said you can check with the airline.
  • Thank you both!
