Trip to Easter Island – accommodation and how long is long enough?

I'm doing a trip through South America and while I'm in Chile I'm considering heading to Easter Island, but no one seems to know anything baout getting there or accommodation?? Where does one stay and what kinds of accommodations can be found there; hostels, backpackers, hotels???

How long is long enough to get a good taste for things and what else is there to explore while you're there?
Any advice, experiences, stories, etc will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks
