Affordable family accommodation in Mozambique

edited November 2009 in - Southern Africa
We are 2 families of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) who want to go to Mozambique for 3 weeks in June / July 2010. We are finding accommodation expensive and cannot find anything affordable. There seem to be very few camp sites and now that 2 of the children are 12 they are charged as adults. Does anyone know of affordable accommodation up to as far as Vilankolus?

Hi Wendy, Mozambique is a wonderful destination for a family beach holiday. I'm not sure of the ages of your kids, but remember it is a malaria area, so just to discuss medication with your GP before you depart. Most properties throughout Mozambique charge in US Dollars which does add up, especially when staying for a long period, such as three weeks. There are some options near Inhambane (Barra Lodge and Flamingo Bay - popular with SA locals) and on the mainland near Vilanculos (Casa Rex) which offer good rates and are more affordable for a lengthy stay. It really depends on the amount you have in mind.
