Baggage Allowance

edited December 2008 in World Wide
Hi. We are flying to New York with BA next week and then plan to book a few internal flights in the US. Can anyone advise what the baggage allowance is for BA and also what the baggage allowance is for US planes? How strict are they and how much can you get away with carrying on your take on baggage. Also, is there a limit on the number of bags?? thanks for your help. M.

Baggage allowance limits are vary from airline to airline and they should be clearly labelled on the ticket or confirmation email along with limits on how many bags you can take on board. The UK Department of Transport has recently changed its conditions so you can now take two pieces of luggage on the plane. Weight limits for most airlines are around 20 kg (44lbs) for passengers travelling in Economy Class and 30 kg (66lbs) for passengers travelling Business Class. I think the weight limit for carry on baggage is about 7kg, but they dont normally weigh it - so take the heave stuff hand baggage! In the USA and Canada a "piece system" is used where passengers can check in up to two bags. Each bag should not weigh more than 32kg, and each item should be no more than 158 cm in size (length+width+height). Passengers who need to carry items that exceed the weight and size limit, such as some sporting equipment,
should notify their airline in advane and can be expected to pay extra. Check all this with the airlines. Baggage Allowance should be on their website and ticket. T
