I have ran into people who are traveling on a worldwide air ticket. It works something like they can fly as much as they like around the globe in one year as long as it's in the same direction. What is this and who offers this and what are the restrictions?

Most allow you 29,000 miles total mileage but it is possible to buy additional miles. Travel must be in the same global direction. Refunds are restricted.
Basically the more expensive the RTW is, the more options of stopover points and airlines you have.
I can help with flights originating from ythe UK otherwise it would be a question of contacting a good independent travel agent where you live or your national carrier.
Hope this helps.
