I will gladly do a comparison for you. There are only 2 major safari companies I would recommend. If you can give me the dates and places you'd like to see, I'll put a few options/suggestions together for you.

It also depends where in South Africa you will be based. You can email me on
  • There are many- literally hundreds of good tour operators. it just depends where you want to go and what you want to do. Africa is also very vague, i would recommend you choose a tour operator that specialises in certain areas like Southern Africa,East Africa, Namibia etc depending where you want to go. 14 days is not a lot, i also recommend you don't try to see everything and go everywhere (although i know a lot of people cannot afford to visit Africa all the time) but its better to spend your days on site than on the road and not really experiencing Africa.

    Good luck!

@ame - i can personally recommend Jackalberry Lodge, inside the Thornybush Reserve, where I stayed in December. It is luxurious, but veyr affordable when compared to other private lodges. You get a ranger and safari drives morning and evening; guaranteed to see the big 5 and much more. Leave a message if you want more details or look it up on Google. Good luck.

we are using a firm called Exclusively Africa which was recommended by my friend. They are based in south africa and have created a bespoke itinery for us. we are going in July 2012. we are on a 3 night safari as well as staying in Cape Town, doing the wine and garden route and spending some time in Johannesburg.

I have booked a great tour called the Masai Footsteps with Visions of Africa who are based in the UK. Great tour and well organised tour guides on the ground followed the expertise of the tour operator.
