Milan to Venice

edited January 2011 in - Italy
It's our first trip to Italy and we have about 16 days.

We plan to travel from Milan direct to Venice upon arrival at airport, and on return trip, will stay for 2-3 nites in Milan before flying home to Singapore. From Venice, we will go to Tuscany, Florence and then back to Milan.

1) Which airport is more convenient for making connecting train rides to Venice? Linate or Malpensa?
2) Is it worth driving from Milan to Venice? We can hire a car but don't know wha'ts worth seeing along the way?
3) understand Lake Garda is nearest and worth visiting. Which part of Lake Garda is most convenient to stay for 2 days?
4) How far is train ride from Florence to Milan? Which train is best to take?

Any advice will be most appreciatiated. Many thanks in advance.
