Yuan notes from 1940s - still valid?

edited February 2011 in - China
Hello,

A relative had passed and recently we found within
a box of papers some old yuan money. Based on
searching on line, these bills appear to be from the
1940's with some even a bit earlier. My question
is: are these bills still acceptable as currency or are
they just historical artifacts or collectibles?

Thanks to anyone who can provide some insight
on this.

I very much doubt it given that the PRC only came into being in 1949. However, I'm sure the notes now have a greater value to collectors, so perhaps get some photos and send them to dealers in old notes for a valutaion.
