Transit via Frankfurt

My father is traveling to USA and his transit is through Frankfurt airport. He holds an Indian passport which was granted in 1997 and its valid till 2017 (for some reason he was granted a passport valid for 20 years). He has a valid B1/B2 visa for entering USA. I read on many websites that Europe has a rule that the passport should have been issued not more that 10 years ago. As I understand, this is only if one needs transit visa. Will my father have any problems considering he is going to be at the airport and doesnt need a transit visa?
