long distance travel with baby

edited March 2009 in World Wide
anybody have any advice on whether to travel long haul from the UK with a 11 month old baby - have 7 weeks free in August and considering travel to Australia (sydney/queensland) and maybe west America with partner and baby - are we mad or is this feasible?!!!

It is feasible, but you are mad. I think it all comes down to the seats you get: secure the bulkhead row and you're ok, but get stuck in a cattleclass row and you and your neighbours will suffer. Babies that age still sleep quite a bit, so you should some peace for half the flight. A little panado syrup will help. Another tip is for you and your partner to get separate seats away from each other, and then take sleep/babysitting shifts over the 24 hours it will take to get to Oz.
