architectural landmarks in moscow and st petersburg

edited April 2012 in - Eastern Europe
I am planning a holiday to Moscow in September, planning to be there ten days. I am very interested in architecture and am planning to spend a lot of time looking at Soviet architecture as well as famous landmarks like St Basil's Cathedral and the Kremlin. I was wondering, given my interest in architecture, should I spend all ten days in Moscow or take a few days' detour to St Petersburg? I've heard that the Church of Our Saviour on the Spilled Blood is worth a look in St Petersburg - what else could I go see there, aside from that and of course the Winter Palace and Hermitage?
