Costa Rica in September

My husband and I are planning our one year anniversary trip to Cr. It is our first time. I know that it's the green season but CR is pretty high on our list and also closer than Hawaii from NYC. We are staying from September 23-27. 5 nights. Can you recommend areas that are drier? Also, with just 5 days, would you recommend hitting up two different parts or just stick with one? Arenal sounds great. Hot springs and volcanos sounds up our alley. I also was told we would love Tamarindo. Also, wether it is better to have a driver or rent a car. We love adventure. We like thoughtful hotels and aren't into mega resorts that are impersonal. Any recommendations are appreciated! Thank YOU!

Costa Rica's seasons are defined by how much rain falls during a particular period and not to the four seasons in the Northern Hemisphere. The year can be split into two periods, the dry season known to the residents as summer, and the rainy season, known locally as winter. The summer or dry season goes from December to April, and winter or rainy season goes from May to November, which almost coincides with the Atlantic hurricane season, and during this time, it rains constantly in some regions.
